SIF Notes for March 19

Planet Fall-the book discussion is postponed until next week, because "we have lives". Actually, lots of folks need the extra time to read it. Yet, to tantalize you all, pay no attention to the cover, and read it all the way. They (the hearsay experts for you) say the ending makes the book.

Growing up Weightless by John M. Ford is still on the docket, just two weeks from next week.

Galen is god of pillow hair??!!

Cath gets a secretary god thing. (Shucks, 'taint nothing.)

Henry will be kindly filling in for Cath next week.

Mark Moore and Mickey Zucker Reichart announce the arrival of their son Kobe Elijah (sorry about the spelling if it's wrong!) The little guy was born on February 14. There will be a reception on March 29 from 12-3 at their house 1960 Elder Ave, Nichols, Ia. There will be some food. Kids are welcome. Call 723-4579 to ask for more information, directions, and to RSVP.

Henry and Galen have been putting in hours at the SIF desk.

The Science Center of Iowa will host Star Trek: Federation Science from February 1 to April 27. They'll have lots of cool displays, and a planetarium show called Orion Rendezvous, which will feature voices from the cast. If anyone's interested in organizing a trip, let folks know.

Lynda looked lovely on TV.

Icon reports that the Clarion Hampton is drawing up a contract for Icon 23 that should be ready by Minicon if that is the route they choose to go. Also, just in case plans have been made with the Clarion for Icon 22.

Gamicon has set its date for next year, February 20-22. Gamicon also plans to remain at the armory for next year.

Next Gamicon meeting is March 31st, from 7-7:30 at John and Michelle's house.

Gregg said the comet viewing on Saturday was cool. He took pictures.

Lynda's cat has blown out her knee, but is on steroids and will hopefully be better soon.

Anime was a little busier than usual last week. Next show is April 6th, where they'll show all the Greenwood episodes. The 20th is the big anniversary show. Big fun! Prizes! Fliers to come next week.

AnimeIowa meetings are after Anime. There are about 8-10 principle players, and some volunteer help.

AnimeIowa will be publicized at Minicon. Maybe thanks to great deals on Scotch tapes, Fan subs to prereg folks. BTW, Target has excellent deals on Scotch tapes right now...

SIF con stuff April 12, from 10am to 10pm, in the Illinois Room and 4 rooms on the second floor. Physics panel? Peter's checking on it. We're still looking for folks to do a Star Trek panel. Gregg is still waiting to hear from the Star Trek trivia folks. Jon and Michele will do games. Cath and Bryon will do costumes. Lynda will do nonorganized events. Michele suggests a panel on fan media. Maybe a panel on how to enjoy cons? Maybe Geek jeopardy? Henry will do fliers. Henry will also check on permission to show science of Star Trek which was broadcast on A&E. Simon suggested we all bring snacks. Every member is accountable now for the equivalent of two bags o'chips. The SIF library will be there. We NEED people to put up a display case. Please bring stuff to the next couple of meetings, and if you're arty, please help with the case. BEG!BEG!PLEAD! Phew!

Gamicon paid for Elyce, and SIF will reimburse them.

We may see Elyce and Chad again at Icon. They made it home safely. They had a good time.

Gregg thinks it's a good idea to have a feminist panel at Icon.

Simon n TV Millenium should be on. Friday's IPT--first new Red Dwarf, followed by Sylvester McCoy as the Doctor in Happiness Patrol, followed by Tom Baker interviewing himself in Who on Earth is Tom Baker? Saturday's IPT--The next three episodes of Red Dwarf, Season 7. Sunday --Part 2 of the 2 part XFiles.

Return of the Jedi--we got rid of the Ewok song, but we got Gotham City instead...

Lynda still is looking for that episode where the Ferengi comment about how earth women wear clothes. What's the title? Henry will find out. Go Henry!

The Saint comes out April 4th.

It's a rap...
