SFLIS Minutes January 29, 1997

The Daily Iowan has been hitting us up for Star Wars interview info. Simon and Rob have become designated to hit men.

Simon has that women's week speaker's info.

There's some movie coming out this weekend. Star something or other Anyway there isn't an official outing, but people are welcome to go with Jon and Michele's gaming group, who will decide when they go on Friday. Also a possibility is going with Mick's group on Sunday to Des Moines. Contact those parties for additional info. The movie is at the Carmike Cinema 7 in Cedar Rapids. It'll be in DTS.

Lynda says that TIC West Auditions will be at the Roth house in Des Moines this Sunday at 6pm. RC and Lynda plan to be involved in their own personal idioms, and will be making the trek pretty much every weekend, so if you're interested there's a carpool possibility. The weekly itinerary will be 6-8 in Des Moines Sunday nights, and an Iowa City return ETA of around 10 pm. The script is under wraps until Demicon(moochiron), they are looking for people who can sing. Rob adds that they are also casting for TIC after Dark. Mick wonders if they are bit parts for people who don't want to trek to Des Moines so much. Lynda says she'll check.

Cath will fill out the library information sheet for us, and turn it, so they'll (the hearsay experts for you) will know all about our organization.

Rob'll put together a SIF flier, provided he can get access to Adobe Pagemaker next door...

Michelle has the following Gamicon comments. The GM party is February 8 from 12-4pm in the Union's Northwestern Room. There will be drinks and some snacks, but if you want a turkey you're on your own. GM's can playtest games there if they like. The hosts will also be giving out the super secret Gamicon emergency cellular phone number for GM's who might encounter difficulties getting to the con. By the way, if you can't make the party, and you need info, Jon and Michele (sorry about 2 l's above)'s number is 626-3153.

Michelle reports that Andy, Teresa, Sue, and herself are putting in a bid for the next Gamicon's con com. The deadline for bids is February 12.

Fliers for Gamicon are out. Jon says get those pre-reg's in, so you can play that spiffo game you saw. They're filling up fast.

Gamicon has some missing in action addresses. If you know any of the folks on the cards, and where they can be found now, let the Gamicon folks know.

Yet another big dealer will be at Gamicon. Key's games and hobbies out of Moline is coming.

Steve reports that Babylon 5 is new this week. Rob backs that up. Also, the SciFi channel (which the Cedar Rapids contingent will nail themselves to Cox's satellite dishes to keep!) has just rebooted MST3K. The home game was on the other night. Steve is looking for someone to possibly tape the new ones for him.

Steve has the lowdown on IPT's Friend's week. On the 14th of March, public television is showing a recolorized version of Dr. Who: The Daemons. Also Mythmakers: Return to Devil's End. On the 21st, the first episode of Red Dwarf, Season 7. Brand new stuff! Also Mythmakers: Who on Earth, featuring Tom Baker, followed by Happiness Patrol. On the 22nd, the next 3 episodes of Red Dwarf, Season 7.

If you are interested in manning the phones for Friend's week, Steve needs to know by February 12. We usually carpool to Des Moines. We'd leave Iowa City around 7 or 7:30, and work from 10:15-12:30. Lots of food! Lots of fun! Lots of funds!

Budget stuff is going in by February 7. To get especially allocated funds, turn in your stuff by next Wednesday, February 5. Film series gives out around $200-$750. Slashing is going to be the same as last year, so ask for lots, and hope for the best. We can request money for next year's SIF con since it will be held at the union. We can get large rooms for up to 2 days. We can get money for guests. $500 if they're with an agency, $250 if not. If we use money for speakers, controversy is no longer a problem (whatever that means). We can get money for one night's hotel accomodations, unless they are actually speaking for two days, in which case we can get two nights's funding.

Michelle wants to know if anyone has the rules to or knows anyone who can run Teenagers from Outer Space at Gamicon. Bryon said he's seen it done, and suggested that maybe Steve Wilcken could be rooked into it. If you know someone, let Jon or Michele (one l! Sorry again!) know.

New semester hours sheet is needed for the SIF desk.

Peter reports and brainstorms on SIF con. He'll be meeting with the facilities guys at the union tomorrow. Tentative dates tossed around were April 12 or April 19 to avoid the most confusion. Peter really likes the physics of Star Trek idea. Whoever came up with that, go for fleshing it out. There was some discussion of making that month's anime coincide with SIF con, if they are one the same weekend.

Cath announced that Quantum Leap finally comes back to the SciFi channel at the end of March.

Simon's TV Update. Tonight's Voyager--end of Janeway? New this week: Millenium. Last part of Trial of the Time Lords this week. This is the last Colin Baker episode. This weekend's X-Files has Scully thinking she's dying. Rumor has it she gets a tatoo in an interesting locale... Didja notice how last week's X-Files resembled Fox's Dr. Who movie? What with walking corpses, and paramedics being stolen from or stolen, and a general theme of regeneration. Hmmm...

Gregg has a copy of "How Much the Planet," written by Icon 22's Author GOH for people to borrow. Lynda plugs it as well.

Marty says Anime was a big success in spite of 4 inches of snow and the Superbowl. The next show is on the 16th and will feature Skirt chaser anime (sukebe yo!). After that, the return of Tenchi. After that, the 2nd anniversary celebration.

Michelle reminds that fliers for Icon, SIFcon, and Anime can go in Gamicon care packages.

We have 118 Gamicon registrations.

That's it. Any corrections, feel free to discuss them over the airwaves. I gotta do some homework. Rumor.
