SFLIS Minutes November 6, 1996


This being THE MINUTES of the latest SFLIS Meeting, dated November 6, 1996.

After many chocolate awards and ventures of godhood were given out, the fine attendees of this week's meeting began the important dissemination of science fiction business. Among this week's reports and offerings:

The Icon web page is now located at www.sflis.org/icon. Visiting the old address will result in a directive to this new address.

Next week will see an update in this space and on the web with new officers listed.

Eventually, also listed in this space will be information about Gamicon and AnimeIowa, two upcoming conventions.

If there are web page changes to be made, please contact the almighty John, web wizard.

ICON info: Fan guest of honor will be William "Bear" Reed, reknowned for costuming prowess and rank in the Klingon empire.

Money can be paid for the upcoming Gamicon festivities from now until said festivities.

Babylon 5 season 3 is officially over. Season 4 begins this week, on Saturday or Thursday, depending on the whim of fate and Fox.

Star Trek, the next one comes out November 22. Plans for a group excursion are underway. Chances are good that since this is an even number Trek film, it should be okay...

Be sure to catch "Trials and Tribblelations," a DS9 episode this week, which integrates the original Trek Tribble episode with the DS9 crew in a Forrest Gump like technical manuever. It airs in our area on Sunday.

Popcorn left over from Icon is available for Gamicon GM's party.

If you want to vote for new SFLIS officers, but don't want to come to the meeting, and you're eligible to vote, go to the SFLIS desk at IMU. There is an absentee ballot box there. Please put your name on your vote, or to assure confidentiality, place your ballot in an envelope with your name on the outside. Offices yet to be decided follow.

Absentee votes must be cast by 5pm November 13th.

A motion from the Gamicon committee was made to replace a past commitee member with Andy Wheeler. Andy was seconded and voted onto Gamicon Con Com.

This month's Anime viewing is Sunday, November 17. Theme is Ghostchasers. Place is Lucas-Dodge room.

Marty will be attending the pinball expo November 15th and 16th and will return with cool plastic promo stuff.

Myrna's Party (not necessarily a con, but an event)
Gamers Oasis really is cancelled for this weekend.

Andy and Nigel are off to RockCon and will take others if interested. Andy is the contact guy on this one.

The Maakesteds are off to Quad Con next week for Saturday, looking for trouble. If anyone wants to look with them, contact them.

Legends is selling rocket kits and engines, osprey books,kites and kite string for 50% off. This is part of their plan to expand their gaming area. Buy now! Save big bucks.

Info about Mars probes discussed. We'll have 11 missions in the next two years (not SFLIS personally, but you get the idea). In about 3/4 of a year, expect hot tabloid news from Mars.
