SFLIS Minutes July 3, 1996


The meeting was called to order by Lynda, 15 people were there.

TICC will be performing at World Con 1997, Labor Day Weekend in San Antonio, pre-reg is $90 until July 7 then it goes to $120. Les is looking for additional ideas for the skits!

TICC will also be at Concussion performing "Wizard of Trek", July 26-28. The Nebraska Convention is at Council Bluffs Iowa.

JJ announced that most of the SFLIS minutes for the last two months are on the internet at "http://www.sflis.org/" and you can even look at them from Panda by issuing the command "www http://www.sflis.org/".

Per Marty's request, JJ has SWAMP information at "http://www.sflis.org/swamp.html".

DMSIF annual 4th of July campout is this weekend

The next Anime showing will be July 21st at the Minnesota Room of the IMU

Brooks Peck has a story in a book coming out this October, "Future Net", published by DAW as do Robin Bailey, Wil McCarthy, Greg Benford, Jane Lindskold and many others.

Gamicon Light will be Saturday July 13th in Cedar Rapids, Steve Crow is GOH.

There is a backyard BYOB to watch the fireworks on Thursday July 4 at Sports Car Iowa City, 2263 S Riverside Drive. Go south on Riverside Drive past the Iowa City Airport, past Moore Business Forms, it's on the right side of the road (Moore is on the left side), there should be Brittish Sports Cars all around.

Various pieces of mail were passed around.

Merceces Lackey's "Fire Rose" is very good, recommended highly

Roger Zelazny's "A Night in Lonesome October" was highly recommended

It was discussed and concensus was that it's a good idea to have one or two people at each meeting read a paragraph or two (one two three minutes worth) at each meeting of their favorite or new and liked SF&F novel.

Friday night on TNT - the greatest of Bad SciFi movies (groans were loud as were 'alright's.)
